Michael “Mike” Evans was born May 6, 1982, and has been a resident of Bolingbrook ever since. Mike was raised by his single mother Mary Evans and his loving grandmother Carmelina, and he credits them both with instilling in him the value of civic involvement and the importance of a good education. Mike is a proud graduate of the Valley View school system having attended North View and Independence Elementary Schools, B.J. Ward Middle School, and finally Romeoville High School. After graduating from Romeoville High School in 2000, Evans continued his education at Northern Illinois University where he majored in History and Political Science. Believing that the value of your education is enhanced by the effort a student applies, Mike became involved in several extra-curricular activities, student groups, and community organizations. These included being a member and Vice-President of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity, Director of Greek Affairs for the NIU Student Government, member of the NIU Mass Transit Board of Directors, as well as being involved in dozens of leadership councils, peer groups, and philanthropic events benefitting both the NIU student body as well as the DeKalb community. Deciding early on that he wanted to pursue a career in local government Evans was fortunate to have the opportunity for an internship in the Mayor’s Office with the Village of Bolingbrook. At the same time Mike transferred to Illinois State University where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Politics and Government in 2004. Mike’s civic involvement did not stop after graduation. In 2005, he began working full-time in the Mayor’s Office at the Village of Bolingbrook, was a member of the DuPage Mayors and Managers Regulatory Affairs Committee, and continued to work with community organizations in any capacity that he could. In May of 2005, Mike worked with representatives from the National Exchange Club to help build a local chapter and in June, was elected Charter President of the Bolingbrook Exchange Club, an organization that promotes Patriotic and American ideals while pursuing their national project of child abuse prevention. Since 2008, he has also served as one of the inaugural members of the Bolingbrook Hospital Foundation’s Board of Directors and acted as Chairman for their 2009 Fall Gala. Mike is also a past member of the DuPage Convalescent Center Foundation Board of Directors where he helped guide the Foundation through a redevelopment process. Mike also served as the DuPage County Grants Coordinator overseeing $60 million in Federal and State funds as well as working with the County Board on legislative projects and acting as a liaison to Federal and State agencies. In 2007, Mike became the Executive Director for the Bolingbrook Area Chamber of Commerce and was elected to the Valley View School District’s Board of Education and has served in both capacities since. Mike Evans currently resides in Claridge Estates in Bolingbrook with his fiancé and they are happily awaiting the birth of their new baby in 2010. He enjoys traveling, playing sports, and spending time with family and friends and encourages more people of his generation to take an active role in the future of their communities.
